HAPPY HALLOWEEN - NOW LET'S WATCH SOME SCARY MOVIES!

Happy Halloween everyone!

So, Halloween (Oct. 31st for those of you bad with dates n' such) is almost here ... Which means it's time to watch scary movies! But in today's world, "gore" and "jump scenes" have replaced true thrills, so if you're looking for some movies that will truly deliver some ghostly scares, you've come to the right place.

Remove the "boos" from your viewing experience with this list of scary movies worth watching this Halloween!

The Shining – Sure, Jack Nicholson has had a lot of great roles. But this is the one that everyone knows ... Even if they don't remember the Tonight Show host that inspired the most famous line that is still quoted today.

• 28 Days Later – Sure, The Walking Dead is all the rage now (and deservedly so), but it wouldn't be without the "Rage" virus featured in this British import that was scary as it was way too possible, which is to say "very."

• Cujo – Know how dogs are supposed to be man's best friend? Well, watch this 1983 Stephen King selection about a St. Bernard bitten by a bat with rabies and you might opt for a pet goldfish instead mighty quick!

• A Nightmare on Elm Street – Taking the nod over the Friday the 13th series due to fewer bad sequels (yes, Freddy fought Jason, but at least he never went into space!), this 80s classic is memorable for its main character, making people afraid to go to bed in a way they hadn't before and what happened to poor Johnny Depp ...

The Ring – Sure, the sequel was bad (I mean, bad – the boom mic is visible in almost every other shot and that's the LEAST of its problems), but this 90s flick ruined telephones for at least 3-4 months. Don't believe me? Call someone this Halloween, whisper "7 days" creepily and hang up ... You might lose a friend over that one!

Night of the Living Dead – The original zombie-craze starter, there's nothing quite like the original Dead movie (save for the great 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead). "The dead shall walk the earth" ... But it's the ending that is true horrifying nature that makes this 1960s George A. Romero classic just that – a classic.

Creepshow – Make anyone with a fear of bugs watch the segment "They're Creeping Up On You" and you will delight in watching them squirm to the point someone might mistake them for practicing yoga. It's, well, creepy!

The Birds – Alfred Hitchcock has made a lot of great scary movies, which is why the new Anthony Hopkins-led film Hitchcock is so anticipated ... But out of all his films, this one is the one that many people get creeped out by the most. Think about it, what's worse: One knife-wielding psychopath or hundreds – IF NOT THOUSANDS – of birds swooping down upon you - it's death from above!

Children of the Corn – Ever meet a kid named Malachi? Ever not been scared when you learn that's his name? Ever driven through the great plains and seen all that corn for miles and miles ... I rest my case.

Halloween – Sure, there have been a TON of bad sequels (Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks were in one, for goodness sake!) But given the occasion and the impact of the original coupled with the longstanding legacy of Michael Myers, there's no way this film wasn't going to make the list!
