Hey Cincinnati! Do you consider yourself an independent film buff? If the answer is "yes," the Esquire Theatre is hosting an event you likely won't want to miss.
A film nominated for the Independent Spirit Best First Feature/John Cassavettes Award and listed on 25-plus best film lists, In The Family, a new independent film opens this Friday, March 23 at the Esquire Theatre in the Clifton area of Cincinnati.
Set in Martin, Tennessee, the film revolves around a gay couple – Cody Hines (Trevor St. John of One Life to Live fame) and Joey Williams (Patrick Wang) – living happily together with Chip (Sebastian Brodziak). A happy 6 year-old, Chip lives in perfect harmony with Cody ("Pa"), his biological father and Joey, who he has come to call "Dad."
Then Cody is involved in a horrific accident ... And Chip – whose mother died in childbirth – is then taken away from the only other adult he's known as a parent when he is separated from Joey. What ensues is one man's fight to show how a parent's love and right to love a child cannot be defined by legal books, but by the emotional connection they share.
Wang, who also wrote and directed the film, will participate in Q&A sessions about the film after the 8 p.m. screenings on Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24. A final Q&A session will take place following the film's 1 p.m. screening on Sunday, March 25.
Ticket prices for the event are $9.50 for adults and $6.75 for students/seniors age 65 and above. Matinee screenings of the film are $6.75 for all ages.
