HERE'S THE STORY: A film unlike any other you'll likely see this year, Sausage Party features the vocal talent of Seth Rogen as Frank, a sausage that – like every other item for sale at Shopwell's, the grocery store they live in – can't wait to get chosen by the gods (a.k.a. humans) to get to leave the store and go into the "Great Beyond." For the Great Beyond is a mythical place where humans treat grocery store items like loved ones and treat them to paradise, or so they think ...

For when a jar of honey mustard (Danny McBride) comes back from the Great Beyond (after being returned by a customer), he is shell-shocked with tales of doom and gloom ... Even though no one believes him. Frank is too busy looking forward to life in the Great Beyond with Brenda (Kristen Wiig), a shapely bun in a pack with whom he's spent his entire existence on the shelf. So when "Red, White and Blue" day rolls around (a.k.a. the Fourth of July to we "gods"), Frank and Brenda are excited, especially when they get chosen together to go into the Great Beyond – or at least they would be if they didn't get separated from their fellow wieners and buns.

But what Frank and Brenda don't know is what Barry (Michael Cera) is about to discover once he makes it to the home of the god that chose them: The awful reality of life in Great Beyond is that once you're there, you're life is over – for the gods plan to devour you, or, as other household items learn, stick you in some REALLY nasty places. And then, once Frank begins to question life in Great Beyond as well, he realizes it may be up to him to save everyone from certain death.

And when it comes to Frank, he is determined no one is going to beat his meat.*
WHO WILL LIKE THIS FILM THE MOST? Seth Rogen fans; Michael Cera fans; Salma Hayek fans who are looking forward to hearing her as they never have before;

WHO WON'T (OR SHOULDN'T) LIKE THIS MOVIE? Devoted Jews; Israelites; anti-homosexuality advocates;

SO, IS IT GOOD, BAD OR ABSOLUTELY AWFUL? Now, if you are a regular McCoy On Movies reader, you know I usually try to give you ample warning when a film does something that might cause you have an issue with it. Be it language, sexual content, violence, controversial subject matter, or has some moment/incident/topic enough people might find offensive. (If the pun above with the asterisk – * – offended you, you should DEFINITELY avoid this movie!)Well, if you've never paid attention to any of those warnings before, please do this time ... because Sausage Party is a film that has something for everyone in terms of being the most offensive film of 2016, possibly 2017 and beyond.

It's also really, really funny. Or at least the funniest movie featuring detailed not-so-thinly veiled socio-political commentary, a bevy of sexually-themed puns and graphic food-on-food sex.

If you've never watched Pineapple Express or This is the End, you will likely not be prepared for what Sausage Party has to offer. Likewise, if you have seen those two films and found them crass (there's a word you don't see every day), offensive to your faith, vulgar and/or juvenile, you again should skip watching Sausage Party – because Sausage Party is more hardcore in terms of language, drug use, subject matter (and I don't mean the concept of food becoming self-aware what is going to happen to it) and depictions of violence and sex than both of those movies combined. In other words, if you happened to ignore the fact the film is rated are and decide to bring a child with you – as did several visibly regretful parents at the advance screening I attended (shame on you all who did; you're terrible people and you deserve nothing but bad things) – under the age of say 16 with you, be prepared for [1] an awkward ride home and/or [2] a very details conversation about a lot of things you may not want to talk about.

Seriously, Sausage Party is a film that never tries to ease into anything – it just goes full blast any time, every time. With a cast this talented at being comedic, their ability to deliver their lines with perfect timing, emotion and inflection is never in question. The content they are delivering, however, is what will have your jaw hitting the proverbial floor every 60 seconds or so as Sausage Party uses food to cover a LOT of topics: Israel-Palestine relations, homosexuality, racism/minority issues, pre-martial sex, "bros" and bro culture, drug use (for both food and humans), stereotypes, Nazis (in the form of German mustard) ... Sausage Party tackles all these things within the context of the world in which its characters exist, delivering ribald joke after ribald joke after ribald joke.

There are four letter words and puns loaded with innuendo aplenty, so if you are seriously uncomfortable with any of the things I have REPEATEDLY WARNED YOU ABOUT TO THIS POINT, Sausage Party is going to hit you right in the (melon) balls with jokes. Yes, the movie is LOADED with jokes that seem like they were written by guys in junior high school, but they are really funny jokes that you'll appreciate if they don't offend your sensibilities with just how outrageous and button-pushing they are.

Therefore, if you're on board for an outrageous adventure, however, Sausage Party is an absolute tour de force of laughter. Save for a somewhat ambiguous ending, the film delivers everything you'd want in an outrageous comedy with twists, turns and surprises that are entertaining as their comical. Saying much more would give away too much of this summer's most original comedy (next to Swiss Army Man, which this makes look like On Golden Pond). After all, where a main character is LITERALLY a giant, well, douche, you have to know what you're getting into isn't gonna be for the easily offended!

Just keep the kids at home ... And be prepared to ingest nothing but water – or holy water – if you feel guilty after you leave.
